Kittycat

Okay, so here I am trying to figure out this new tool, Zoho. So far it seems as if it's alot like Word. I'll need to play more, but so far so good.

The above is a document from ZOHO. I was actually able to send it to my blog correctly. Yea for me. (I am currently editing this post as so I don't have to create a new one for the same topic) It seems as though part of the picture was cut off. I'm sure there's a way to crop that so it would fit properly. Something I will have to look into in the future. I don't personally have a use for this site currently, but that could certainly change in the near future.

wiki whati?

I can see good uses for wikis. The one set up by RCPL's Public Services is a great example. The help that they can give each other by updating information already there is a plus. If one person has posted a topic, someone else can come along and say yes, but try this too. I don't like the way Wikipedia is set up. Too much false information can get published when anyone can add to a posted topic. How can you be sure the information is truthful? People tend to believe everything they read, with this type of format lots of false information gets out. Hopefully one can distinguish between the truth and lies.

Web 2.0

In this excercise we were to read some articles about web 2.0 and blog. In the article "Away from Icebergs" the author thinks that the book collection is becoming obsolete as more people are using the web to get their information. I think this is very untrue and became agitated by his remarks. Until I saw that he works in an academic library (UNR: Go Wolves!!!). With that information it makes sense as more students are using the web to gather their resources when researching a project. In the public library arena, I don't see this happening. There's nothing better than curling up with a good book and a blankie. Curling up with a laptop just doesn't cut it. I believe the general public will always want the paper copy, something they can hold. Many schools make their students get books as research materials, not allowing them to use only the web. This is good. People shouldn't forget the humble beginnings of learning.

Technorati

This is a fairly neat site. But there are so many tags associated with with so many different sites that it's hard to weed through alot of the stuff. Some of the tags that people use I find are pretty worthless. Just my opinion. Maybe if I have more time later on I can look into it better and see what the advantages are.

Del.icio.us

I'm not sure that I think del.icio.us is all that great. I guess I prefer going out and finding my own websites rather than using someone elses. Plus, there's not that many sites that I visit that I don't know the sites offhand. I did find this site as I was looking around del.icio.us and thought if I ever got a free moment I would look at it more in depth.

Rollyoyoyoyoyo

http://www.rollyo.com/jenkinsmoore/

I'm not so sure I understand this Rollyo thing. I get that by just accessing your Rollyo account you have access to frequently frequented websites. But, when you click on a particular website you added, it gives you a bunch of crap. I thought it would take you to the website itself, but all I saw was links to stories within that website. And I was very surprised when I could access RCPL Board minutes, and some of our policies and procedures. Should the public have access to those??? Board minutes maybe, but procedures? We set up a Bloglines account because it was suppose to cut out all the advertisements and junk to give you just the information you want, but now we set up this account that adds that stuff back in? I'm confused, so if someone could explain this to me, I would be very appreciative. Thank you in advance.

LibraryThing

http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php

Here's my link to my acct. I've always wanted a way to keep track of the books I've read so that I don't waste time reading the same ones (unless I want to, of course!!). This should be a good way to do it.
